🛠️ Steel Wheel Guides – Installation Guide

Overview

Steel Wheel Guides are designed to guide HGVs, trucks, and trailers safely into loading bays, preventing damage to vehicles and infrastructure. This guide walks you through proper installation for optimal performance and safety.

âś… Tools & Materials Needed

  • Hammer drill (with masonry bit)

  • M12 anchor bolts or heavy-duty concrete fixings (typically 4 per base plate)

  • Socket wrench or spanner

  • Measuring tape

  • Marker or chalk

  • Safety gear (gloves, glasses, ear protection)

📏 Placement Recommendations

  • Spacing: Position guides to accommodate the average truck/trailer width – typically 2.5 to 2.6 meters between inner edges.

  • Distance from Dock: Front edge of the wheel guides should be approx. 1.5–2 meters from the dock edge to allow safe alignment.

  • Alignment: Guides should be installed in parallel and straight. Use a chalk line or laser for accuracy.

🔩 Step-by-Step Installation

1. Mark the Positions

Place each guide where it should be fixed. Use a marker to outline the bolt holes onto the ground.

2. Drill Holes

Using a hammer drill with the appropriate masonry bit, drill holes where marked. Hole depth and diameter should match the anchor bolts you're using (typically 12mm x 100mm).

3. Position the Guide

Align the guide with the drilled holes. Check for correct spacing and orientation.

4. Insert and Tighten Bolts

Insert the anchor bolts through the base plates into the drilled holes. Tighten firmly using a socket wrench.

5. Final Checks

Ensure all bolts are fully tightened. Check that both guides are secure and parallel.

⚠️ Safety Tips

  • Only install on stable concrete surfaces

  • Do not install on uneven, loose, or asphalt-only ground without reinforcement

  • Recheck bolts after first few weeks of use

  • Use high-visibility markings if needed

📦 Maintenance

  • Inspect fixings regularly

  • Check for any loosening or corrosion

  • Re-tighten bolts as needed

  • Clean with water and mild detergent if dirty
